Understanding Channels

1 min read

SiteLeads provides two main ways for visitors to communicate with you on your website: Channels and the AI Agent. Both are accessible through the SiteLeads widget but serve different purposes.

Channels Overview #

Channels allow visitors to contact you directly using their preferred communication method. These may include phone calls, messaging apps, email, or social platforms.

When visitors click a channel in the widget, they are connected to the contact method you configured. Channels are best used for direct communication between visitors and your team.

Channels are fully customizable — you can choose which ones to display, how they appear, and where they show on your site.

For step-by-step instructions on setting up channels, see: Creating a Channel Widget

AI Agent Overview #

The AI Agent is a conversational assistant that interacts with visitors automatically. It can answer questions, guide users, and help capture leads without requiring manual responses.

Unlike Channels, which connect visitors to people or platforms, the AI Agent communicates directly with visitors through a chat interface.

The AI Agent can:

  • Respond to visitor questions
  • Start conversations automatically
  • Collect lead information
  • Provide support 24/7

For detailed setup instructions, see: AI Assistant Settings

How they work together #

Channels and the AI Agent can be used together within the same widget.

For example:

  • The AI Agent can answer common questions.
  • Visitors can switch to a channel (like phone or WhatsApp) when needed.
  • Leads can be captured during conversations.

This combined approach helps you automate support while still offering direct communication options.
